Sill Plates

I'm looking at a new pair of repro (OER) sill plates I had for awhile now. Didn't realize how cheap they actually are. What junk. I can't remember if the original GM sill plates were light weight/crap as well ??

Re: Sill Plates

Not sure who is making the OER ones. But, I've sold the Trim Parts ones for years and the stampings are always nice.

Re: Sill Plates

Don't you have an old one to compare it too? I think you will find that is how they all are. The Trim Parts I saw don't have the rivets in the carriage emblem if you are looking for correct.

Thx guys. No I don’t have any originals to compare them to. I didn’t realize how flimsy these things were. I might have to go Billet.

Re: Sill Plates

Just remember that due to their purpose, they have to be somewhat thin, otherwise they will catch the bottom of the door weatherstripping. The ones I bought had the rivets and I thought they were very good quality. HERE (Only 3 Left, 650 Sold)

Re: Sill Plates

Originals were a bit thicker (heavier gauge) than the repros I've seen and quite a bit duller in appearance. I have Trim Parts sills on mine. They almost look like chrome, but scuff easily. Mine weren't stamped perfectly square. There was a slight overhang on the front edge that needed filing down. Without filing that overhang, you can imagine what would happen if a person caught it with their foot getting in & out !

Re: Sill Plates

Pro Touring? Cool, like the LS, suspension etc. . . .so I bought a 12k mile Vette 3 year old in 08 from the bank for $19K. Love my upgraded collection of first gens for what they are. . . old school from an old guy.
