No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

In the event one has an auto floor shifter and no console what dressed up the shifter area? I'm helping a friend with a '67 Firebird that has the same floor shifter that a Camaro would have. He prefers no console and I agree.

He has this T-Handle shifter. https://shiftworks.com/collections/c...handle-shifter

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

I would assume the same boot used for the Manual floor shift. The floor cutout is the same for both manual & PG

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

I think I remember there was something that held the shift indicator and tidied up the area. I could never get a manual shifter boot over the handle part of this shifter. Maybe a newer leather type that laces up, but not a first gen era rubber boot.

It seems I saw it here on Team Camaro a while ago.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

yeah, forgot about the shifter indicator...which would also have lighting

IDK if a floor PG car came without a console...maybe some 411 on CRG or someone far more knowledgeable than me on this

I also have the Shiftworks T shifter I just converted to the TH350 swap. Nice product. I bought the kit vs the assembled shifter

If you wanted to forgo the shift indicator than you can remove the T handle arm from shift base, install Manual boot then put shift handle back on

The NSS wiring and connector do sit between carpet & console so that would need to get tucked in under tunnel though

Floor shifter without a console I think was only available for 3 speed and 4 speed manual transmissions.

Back before I got a console, all I had was a B&M mega shifter....was too bad.
May find just the box ?

Perhaps so but I think I remember there was an option that was rare. My car which is manual shift has no console and I like it.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

Andrew, I think your right. Seems to me it was similar to the Mustang's setup.
Added: Found more info. It was a 68 only thing and is rare. All 67's with floor
shift apparently received the console. Follow this thread.

Yep, get one from a mustang. This photo was taken from the Yenko site and is the actual 68 Camaro shifter.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

Thank you all for the information. This car isn't a restoration, as in everything has to be correct, so I think the Mustang part might work out well. I see it is relatively inexpensive and I found this site that has several pictures.

Will see if he wants to go in this direction. I hope it is large enough to use without needing a base to raise it up.

Here's more pics from ebay...https://www.ebay.com/itm/65-66-OEM-M...IAAOSwZmJcyzOt

Been a long time since I seen one in person, but was thinking it was somewhat raised. It doesn't look like from the ebay ad.

The Mustang detent spacing may not work.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

We're not looking to replace the shifter, just find a cover to dress it up some. I'm hoping the Mustang cap with the shift indicator will cap the Shiftworks shifter already in place. Secure it to the floor pan with the four screws covering the existing shifter. Or another source for a dress-up cap.
Here is what is currently in place. Keep the ideas coming.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

Dont know what type of build this is but Finch Performance has a nice 6x9 shifter boot and billet ring for restomods and protouring style bids.

You will likely need to do some disassembly of the shifter to get it on.

Re: No Console, '67 W/ Auto Floor Shift

I managed to remove the T-Handle from the shifter and slide on the Mustang base cover. It gaps about 3/8" inch from reaching the floor. :-(

The carpeting pinches flat at about 1/4" leaving about 1/8" gap. I think I can trim at an angle the shifter detent bracket to allow the cover to sit lower. I'll post another picture after I get it together.
