68 camaro console with Tremec T56

I'm looking for a direct ready made console to fit with my T56/Hurst shifter. Not looking for any custom made,or console modifications.

I didn't install my 6speed T56 Magnum, a shop did that. All i know is that the shifter has moved back, from where it was when I had the 4speed Muncie previously.

My question is:

1) How can I really find out if my shifter is relocated somewhere not fitting a classic console?

2) What consoles would fit directly? (please share product link)

3) If my shifter is relocated, either of those below what I need? Anything else?(please share product link)

a) https://www.summitracing.com/parts/h...t/model/camaro - if this is the one, can't I just get the black plate, since I already have a hurst shifter?
b)https://americanpowertrain.com/shop/...m-magnum-t-56/

3) Off topic: Sorry, I can't tell, is this actually a Tremec T56 Magnum?

Thank you!

You have a Hurst Shifter shaft. That doesnít mean you have a Hurst shifter. Shaft can be bolted to any shifter.

Not sure about the transmission. Could be a OEM LS T56.

What is the OD ratio in 6th? Drive at 60-70 mph in 4th. Note RPM. Shift to 6th without changing speed and note rpm. If RPM drops 50% itís a OEM transmission. If it drops 20-30% itís an aftermarket T56. If aftermarket it does not look like a magnum to me but itís hard to tell from the picture.

I see, so then with this shaft & itís location, what direct fit consoles can I get?

For the OD ratio, ill test it out to find out

Looking closer I believe the transmission is a stock OEM LS T56. What does it say on the yellow sticker in the picture of your transmission.

Did you buy the engine and transmission together? If so and it's an LS2 it may be out of a GTO.

This is what a T56 Magnum looks like.

There is no direct fit console that will work.

A 68-69 Console will only work if you move it back from the stock location to where your shifter is (assuming it will fit between the seats) or install a different shifter that moves the shifter shaft to the original shifter location.

Installing a new sifter will involve cutting the tunnel.

Iíll check next time i lift it. Bought them seperately, a local mechanic helped in finding the parts. He did say it was a T56 Magnum, Iím hoping it is.

Regarding the console moving back, you mean just installing it further back with a gap upfront?

Otherwise, whatís a good shifter shaft that i can replace it with to have the console just fit as is?

Re: 68 camaro console with Tremec T56

OP

you have a LSx/T56 swap, right?

It looks like you have a donor LSx T56, not a "Magnum" T56. IDK if HURST makes a "Blackjack" (offset) shifter for your T56. There may be a aftermarket kit to relocate the shift handle itself forward using a bracket

The Magnum T56 has a 6 hole mount for the shifter so the Blackjack you link will work on that. The T56 you have has 4 holes to mount the shifter

Doing the 6th gear ratio test and or read the yellow sticker as Vega$$ notes will tell you which one you have but from your pic it looks like a OEM LSx T56

That's what I'm thinking too. The sticker just reads "Use Dexron III ATF Fluid " so no help there. If .50 OD then it's a donor LSx T56

Re: 68 camaro console with Tremec T56

yeah IDK what the "yellow" sticker says as my T56 has a orange one (Dex 3) in another car

I have seen aftermarket shifters that do move the handle forward, just don't know if there is one for the Tremac LSx T56

I see several kits for the "magnum" T56 but a deeper search may show something for a LSx T56

Re: 68 camaro console with Tremec T56

That's definitely a donor trans...

The F-body transmissions have a .5:1 OD ratio.

The GTO & CTS-V is .56:1 with also a 2.97 1st instead of the normal 2.66.
These also have the shifter mounted farther rearward on a bracket behind the 4 bolt transmission flange so they are easy to identify.

Yes. Pretty sure yours is a donor. Not a Magnum.

Do you have a picture of the top of the transmission before it was installed?

Re: 68 camaro console with Tremec T56

On a donor transmission you can move the shifter to the forward hole. I donít know how far forward it moves it.

Itís not cheap and requires taking apart some of the transmission.

Re: 68 camaro console with Tremec T56

What if I get these full TMI sport console, they donít come precut so that means i can custom cut the shifter location without having to relocate, right?

Only thing is that your shifter is so far back, it might need to go where the drink holders are. If you can get one without the drink holders, you are golden to put it wherever you need to.
