Hi Im swapping out my 350 sb for a 383 stroker. IVE Always dealt with bigblocks in chevelles and had plenty of room to reach the bellhousing bolts from the top. The small block in a camaro I thought it would be accessible from the top but it looks like there is no room from the top or the bottom? Any tricks for easy removal of this small block? Thanks in advance.

Remove trans crossmember to lower rear of tranny and with a long extension they are
pretty easy to get to. be careful when you lower rear of trans the distributer can be damaged from contacting the firewall.

dont know what year you have, but I was able to get the top 2 bolts out from above, and remove the other 4 from below. Its an 89, with a 350.

Yep, they are a b*tch. Last time I just pulled the motor and tranny out together. It makes it much easier. If you don't already have one, get an engine tilter to make installation and removal much easier.

Here is a tip. When you put it back together use socket head (allen head) cap screws.

I get at the top 2 with the closed end of a 9/16" wrench. The slight angle in the wrench gives me just barely enough nuckle room. I get at the bottom four with a long extension and a 9/16" swivel socket.

about 4 feet of extensions,with a swivel or 2 in there-with 1 right at the socket- will get at any bellhousing bolts. don't laugh- it works..looks kinda funny when you are taking off bellhousing bolts with the ratchet even with the end of the tailshaft, but it works.no funky body contortions involved.

I just put my th350 back in my 68 camaro last night by myself. Let me first start by saying, an extra set of hands is extremely important. I felt like I got two hernia's last night but I did it by myself (I will never do it again by myself). I made about 3 foot of extensions and lowered the back of the motor and tranny down after i took the distributor out and was able to get the bolts very easy. Just my two cents. Later, Erik

I've always used a 9/16 box end wrench from above and got to all them, the only one gave me any problem was the one next to the throttle shaft in the firewall.

I never had to drop trans or pull the trans and engine together,

When assembling, I always make sure the threads on both are clean and spray bolts with WD-40 before insertion.

Maybe I just had my tongue in the right position, plenty of wrenches at the top, gravity does rule.

My brother and I used the ARP stainless studs on his 78 Z with 540 ci. big block. Makes things very easy.

getting to those bolts is a breeze and makes subsequent trans swaps easier if you cut two holes in the floor in front of the bolts. just plug them back up with a rubber plug when your done. start the hole with a drill bit instead of the hole cutter to insure your in the area of the bolt.

also, if you take the heads off, you should be able to easily get to the bolts.
