Are you hearing a noise at startup worse the longer it sits? Common things would be 1) Oil leakdown out of the lifters- it usualy goes away after a few seconds. 2) Rod bearings Might be getting worn and need the oil pressure to take up extra clearance. (lower pitched)Also makes a longer racket after you change the oil if you dont fill the filter first. I usually do that and crank it for a few seconds with the coil unplugged after a change of oil.

Frequent oil changes may help, but I had to replace my lifters once to get rid of a ticking noise. If its a worn engine bearing, Thats probably not going to go away unless you rebuild it.
