Is the firewall different on BB cars as opposed to SB cars? I don't have the cutouts for the correct small block heater core and if I remember my numbers right, my base model car came with a 350?!?

The only holes I have are nearly lined up with the inner lip of the fender, maybe in an inch or two...but not to the inside (towards centerline of car) of the large rectangular opening like it should be?! I am stumped. I never thought to look at this critically until today when I was comparing the parts I have collected to rebuild everything. I think I have the inner workings (i.e. underdash) of a BB car including the firewall metal ...and the heater box/fan combo for underhood from a small block car...

Can you help?

If nothing works, I think I will just return it all...(just kidding!)

There's no difference in the firewall between a BB and SB car; just the inner and outer heater boxes are different - if your heater core holes in the firewall are just below the lip of the fender, sounds like you've got an A/C car, not a heater car.

A/C cars have a much bigger air box opening. The opening is about 6" X 10" or so (from memory) and would extend below a heater box. Another clue as to original A/C vs heater, would be the cowl plenum door, located on top of the pass side cowl. It's got a vacuum actuated door for controling airflow into the pass compartment. You might also look at the kick panels. If the driver side has no vent, and the pass side has a big oval hole for a vent door, with no grille, it's an A/C car.
If it's a Norwood car built after 12/68, it will have an X22 or X66 on the cowl tag to indicate big block.

awesome! I had no idea that there was a difference, and no idea this was one of the options my car came with...

so what does the blower and heater box look like for the A/C cars?

The suitcase or AC unit as we call it is a very intrciate setup which includes an Evap Core, Dryer tank, Expansion Valve, hoses, Refrigerant valve and more. I rebuild these units, and I have one almost done, but they are expensive.. if your looking for one, I have 2 of them right now 1 is finished, if your interested please email me for a price.

Note that the factory evaporator box (suitcase) is different for bbc and sbc. Also the evaporator itself turns to the inside on B/B and outside on S/B.

In either case, the heater core is inside the passenger-compartment-side heater or A/C box.
