theres a bolt that gets removed to "check oil", but is that the fill hole. and how much and what kind of oil goes in there?

It's a manual gear box lube that I know Rick's sells. It's GM stuff so I also would think a good auto parts store or a GM dealer would have it.

It is not oil, but grease, like you would use to lube the chassis. Take out the bolt that says "check oil" and the one at the very top of the cover and get a hand grease gun, put some good moly based chassis grease in it and pump it in until in comes out of the "check oil" hole and reinstall the bolts that you removed. Hope this helps.
