I have a 3970110 that has been decked and the #'s are gone. How else can I verify that I have a dz block? Thanks!

The number should be 3970010. That block was used after the end of April, 1969 onwards. This being the case the plant(N or L) and the last six numbers of the cars VIN# should be stamped on the block next to or very close to where the oil filter mounts. As for the engine assembly date and plant where it originated, that will be lost.

There is no block casting unique to the Z/28. For 1969 there were several 4" bore 4 bolt main blocks used in production for either the 302, 300/350, 350/350.

A bare block stamped "HA" is no different than one stamped "DZ".

If the motor has 4bolt main caps still have the stud for a tray to bolt to top of the stud that is a good sign but not a gaurantee
