when your car dosnt have the correct engine in it, how do you find out what hp rated engine was originaly installed? my car is a x55 ss350 69 camaro. thanks for any help.

hunt down what car/pickup the motor came from, look in a chiltons manual for that make and model. www.chiltonsonline.com might help

The original engine that came in a x55 coded car was 350/300hp L-48.

thanks for the info about the 300hp 350 that was greatly appreciated. as far as looking up the engine thats in it, i already know that its a real DZ 302 that a previous owner installed along with Z/28 badges on the car. thanks again guys.

Love those L-48's...the torque was rated at 380 at 3200 arps...that's some yank! Nothing against the 302 which is one bad little motha, but the torque was (conservatively) rated at 290. Two very differently purposed engines...but my vote for the street, would be the L-48. Others could easily find grounds to argue with me. Good luck with your new sled.
