Just the first gen and 70 1/2 firebirds could have the 12 bolt. Trans Ams didnt come to exist until late 71 or 72 so I beleave no Trans Ams came with a 12 bolt stock.

The '69-'70 T/A had the 8.2 Pontiac/Buick 10 bolt. Later T/As had the 8.5 10 bolt.

I forgot about that BOP axle. Thats right GM started switching all cars to corprate parts in 71. So no pontiacs ever came with 12 bolt chevy rear ends. I guess your stuck with finding a 12 bolt from a 70 1/2 camaro. Good luck on that.

Do you really need the 12 bolt, or is it just something you want. I have seen 10 bolts in 9 sec and 1 in a 8 sec car that even had a tranny brake. I believe that if you redo a 10 (8.5" version)with some high quality parts they can take some serious torture. Most of my friends and I run 10 bolts in our street and drag cars. We do have them fail on us occasionally, but not anything that can't be expected from any rearend 10 bolt or 12 bolt. I'm not saying go build a 10 and it will take whatever you throw at it, but if done right they can take some abuse.
