On my 68 rs camaro. ive decoded the cowl tag and verified the vin# but on the 68 models it makes no reference to the packages(rs, or ss) the car has the hide-a-way headlights and all the parts(long since stopped working though)and the reverse lights in the lower rear valance but has no markings on grille gas cap or fenders. what is also strange to me is the chrome trim. On most of the rs ive noticed the chrome trim were in three section fender rocker, quarerpanel. this one has the one piece going all the way down the side. was this an option? some people have told me they think it might have been an rs/ss because the car has the console guage package deluxe interior,tic-toc-tac, speedminder and fuelminder.
the car has drum brakes, automatic trans no p/s, no a/c but does have multileaf springs. Im not sure what size motor came in the car either(motor has been replaced). from the cowl i know it was a v8 built in norwood 3rd week in november white with blackhounds tooth interior. the protect-o-plate card is gone and ive been unable to find the build list(car has since had custom interior and im sure they've discarded it). was the tack and guage option availible on the rs too or is this an ss option? and is there any way to verify for sure if its a true rs.

Have you dropped the fuel tank and checked there. That is where I found the body broadcast sheet for my RS. I'm reasonably sure that any of those options could have been ordered seperately and didn't need to be an SS to have them.

The rocker panel trim on a RS is in three pieces, on the fender, bottom of door, and front half of quater. Has your car been restored before? Someone could have put the wrong trim on it. Also, you can take one the back up lights off and see if the hole is stamped out or cut out. If they were added you can usually tell. Drum brakes does not rule out a SS, Disc brakes were still just an option in 68. Do you know if your car was a big block or small block? As you have already found out, 68s are very hard to verify. Hope this helps a little, Erik

no, i havent dropped the tank didnt know they were ever placed there. unfortunately the car has been painted three times. the guy i bought the car from, had it from 1980 and said it was already set up that way when he bought it. originally the car was white, then painted red and had the vinyl top was removed. so the chrome must have been removed then and now its black. thanks guys
