I have this perhaps silly idea that I want to road race my '68. The only class I can fit into in SCCA (ITE) would find me greatly outclassed, despite the massive suspension changes I have made.

The question is if there is anybody else out there that has had/has the same idea and whether they have lived to regret it?

There was a guy locally who bought an old 69 Camaro road race car. It hadn't been raced in many many years. The guy put an engine in it and almost WON the local race!!
He was leading it and goofed up a corner and dinged his front fender and came in third. I think he got over excited about leading!

To be honest the fastest vette broke and gave the Camaro the lead. But still I was VERY suprised how well the old car did!

One thing, if the other guys have larger tires than you do, it's an uphill battle. Also if your car isn't down to race weight that's a big disadvantage.
Check for a vintage class to run in if your engine isn't too far out.

The guy I first spoke about above, turned around a 1:36 or 1:38 lap time but the course is slightly different now, (slightly longer) and I think he ran before the lengthining.
Here is another one for the vintage event just run. http://www.sfrscca.org/Results/20011104/gr17.htm
