Question

A friend of mine with a " Buick " was just telling me that his breaks went out. He said the breaks got really hard. He said there was no break booster attached to the master cylinder, there was however a electric motor. I've never heard of such a thing, Has anyone else?

Yes,I'm trying to remember what it was called-"hydroboost"or something(damn,I HATE this getting old thing!).I worked at Auto Zone part time a few years back and I remember a guy bringing one in to send for rebuilding.I can't remember the name of it ,but I remember it was HUGE money to get it rebuilt!Good luck!!

Hydroboost uses the power steering pump for power assisted brakes, mostly found on diesel equiped cars and trucks. Most caddys(from 80's up), some big GM cars and many diesel engine cars also used an electric pump motor to provide vacuum for the booster do to the fact that the engine could not supply a good vacuum signal. The elecreic pump is a good upgrade for cars with real wild engines that have very little vacuum at idle.
