I am 17 years old and have made a bet with a friend. Did GM ever put a 454 in a production camaro? The bet excludes all tuner cars and any prototype vehicles. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN PUT IN PRODUCTION

Not in a 1st Gen ('67-'69), for sure.

i have never heard of GM putting 454 in camaro for production.
baldwin motion car had 454's but they were dealer installed, from what I understand the 1st 427 cars were really a loophole in GM that created them.
a good source for more info on this subject would the super car registery athttp://www.yenko.net/

this not to say a 454 won't fit cause do.... rather well I might add!

The answer is no.
As you mention, there were "tuner" or dealer installed 454's and one 454 prototype, but I believe GM corparate forbid putting anything larger than 400 cubic inches into the camaro.

CamaronotCamero- Your wrong.

The 454 was never put in a production Camaro. The 427 was put in at the factory I 'believe' in 68-69, when there were enough yenko cars sold that the dealer couldn't handle the load of installing that many motors, so they convinced GM to do it for them.

I think he means in the chevelle.
I think the GM ban was on cars smaller than a mid-size, and didn't include the vette.

I'm not sure if pontiac told the GM execs to get stuffed cause they put the 455 into their cars.

The 2nd Gen Motion cars could have the 454. But it was still a non factory installed motor. The 396 was the only Big Block from the FACTORY available in first Gens. Then you had the dealer installed 427 (both iron and aluminum 427's).

Matt, except for COPOs.
Also Baldwin Motion put 454's in late 69 Camaros, after the LS6 came out in the Chevelle.

My mistake Unreal. You are correct the COPO is a factory car with 427.
