The guy I bought my Camaro from said it has 12 bolt posi. It does have a 12 bolt and today me and my dad lifted the rear of the car up and did one of those wheel turning methods. I just saw in the Drivetrain forum that those are unreliable. Is this true. Is the only way to find out if it has posi to open it up? If so what would I be looking for. If the wheel turning methods are reliable then what would I want the wheels to do?
Thanks

if you have a posi, it should turn both wheels the same direction the same amount if you turn one wheel or the driveshaft... however.. a worn out one wheeler might do the same thing, just like a worn posi will turn the wheels in opposite directions like a one wheeler. if you open it up, look for springs sideways in the middle of the carrier. an open diff will not have the springs, just gears. but, there are "all gear" aftermarket posi's... i hope i cleared it up for ya, cuz now i am more confused

about the easiest way to determine if it is a posi or not would be to find a deserted road in an isolated area-and do a nice long burn out. If you leave rubber on both quarters and two long black stripes, you have a posi.. If only one stripe, or two stripes but they change sides intermittently-you do not have a posi! This method has always worked quite well for me-even when road testing potential purchases!
