LS swap w/6L80E in a 68 with front bench seat

Does anyone know if a 6L80E will fit with a front bench seat? Are tunnel mods needed, and if so, will they interfere with the bench seat?

Also, do any of the long tube swap headers work with a column shift (probably similar issue for a manual with a cross shaft)?

Recommendations would be appreciated.

I can't offer first hand knowledge, but my guess is a 6L80 is definitely going to require tunnel mods. How much will largely depend on what motor mounts and brackets you end up using. You'll likely have to modify the bottom seat frame around any tunnel mods.

As for column shift, I'm using hooker headers (and everything else) for my ls swap and they state you can keep it with an aftermarket linkage from lokar. I'm going with a manual so I never looked into it much.

blue89bird, thank you for the feedback. After speaking with PSI today, I found out that my 6L80E won't work with our LS2 because of the 24 reluctor wheel. We're currently running a MY6/A833 4 spd manual behind a mild 350. I may try to keep it, or could go with a 4L60E and re-use the column shifter. It looks like these headers will work with either.

Wes, I have a 69 with an LSA and a 4l80e. I kept mine column shift. I used the lokar linkage and I have Hooker long tube headers, works fine.

Any mods to the trans tunnel?

Tony

Don't confuse the 2288HKR Hooker headers with those referenced by steery, as they feature older design geometry that is not compatible with the 4L80 transmission. You can find the newer headers that steery used on the Holley website under the 1st-gen F-body LS swap system pages.
