VSS needed ?? LS Swap

I just read Jeff's (working 24/7) post regarding his VSS issue. I will be using a TKO 600 5 speed and have the option to run a mechanical speedo or VSS/electronic. I'm not sure a VSS is needed ??? Anyone running an LS3 without the VSS ??? I think John did a swap for a buddy with the TKO and no VSS.?

Re: VSS needed ?? LS Swap

I'm in the process of installing gauges as we speak, I had the same option, I went with the mechanical mainly because it was already set up for mechanical. Although I'm not running an ls, is that signal needed for your application?

Re: VSS needed ?? LS Swap

Both my buddy's LS3/480 and my 525 use the GMPP control system and ECU.

His has the original speedo and cable to the TKO600. Mine has Autometer Electric speedo T56.

My car will not start and run without the VSS hooked up. For his I don't remember if we hooked up the VSS wires on the harness to the tranny although I believe I did.

I would hook it up

Re: VSS needed ?? LS Swap

The GMPP harness had it so I used it, no issues. From reading things here and John saying it's required I would say you need it.
