Oilpan clearance

I finally installed my LS1 motor in my 69. I am basically trying to set the engine and make sure everything fits properly.

I noticed that the oil pan is only a butt hair from the cross member. How much distance should there be. I am afraid that the motor will move slightly when you get on it and it could crack the oil pan. I am thinking I may have to notch out the cross member a bit to create more room.

Re: Oilpan clearance

Before you cut, I think there are a few pans for varying clearances and adjustable mounts.

Maybe one of these will help.

Re: Oilpan clearance

For the cost of an oil pan and gasket to get the clearance I would highly suggest you do that instead. Holley has a perfect combination of motor mount and oil pan which will place your motor in a nice spot with great clearance all around. That way in case you decide to go a different route in the future you do not have any regret notching your crossmember
