New Intake Hood Clearance

I have a 69 Camaro that I am going to drop a 5.3L Gen III into and was planning on using a Edelbrock Pro Flo XT (p/n: 71393) and was concerned about hood clearance. I have a 2" cowl hood. Does anyone know if it will fit under the hood?

If you need more information please let me know.

Don't think it will fit. I was able to use a Mid Rise Holley but the High Rise would not fit and the Pro Flo is at least as tall as the Holley High Rise.

You will most likely loose big power putting that type of intake on a 5.3L.

Using the Mid-Rise Holley on my LS3/525 killed my low end torque by probably 100 ft #s

Re: New Intake Hood Clearance

Would you stick with the stock truck intake then? or would changing the water pump from a truck to a LS1 with the spacers and putting an LS1 intake be the better option? I want something that will clean up the engine while increasing the performance.

More background on what the engine will have done to it: LSRô 273LR HR12 cam, new valve springs (tool steel or titanium), long tube headers, and a tune.

Re: New Intake Hood Clearance

Truck intake is a good intake but ugly to some. LS6 intake would be better then the LS1 intake.

If it was mine I'd use an LS6 Intake

Can stock truck injectors be used on the LS6 intake?

Re: New Intake Hood Clearance

Recently took the intake off my 5.3L and the internals are in need of a good cleanup. I will be taking the heads off soon and didn't know if there was anything to do to them to increase compression or gain power from 862 heads?

Also, what kind of power can you expect from larger intake and exhaust ports? I'm not looking to kill low end power either.

Thoughts?

My first time rebuilding an engine so I have a lot of questions.

I just finished a 5.3 conversion. I used an LS1 style intake. I installed a cam and used a stand alone harness. It dyno at 345 hp and 360 tq at 2500 rpm. I did not want a ton hp just moderate and reliable. I am very happy how it turned out.

Re: New Intake Hood Clearance

Ok that is good to keep in mind. I do plan to at least do the LS6 intake, which flows better than the LS1 I believe, with headers, and the cam that I have chosen is a 273Lr HR12 Comp Cam with the specs of 223/231 @.050" duration .61/.617 lift 112 LSA (requiring new valve springs). Not a clue what the end result will be but excited to see. Hoping to be pushing 400-450hp. You think it will be able to get there?

I certainly think so. I am sure my set up would rate even higher at 3500 RPM so you certainly should get that.
