Used LS1 Vette motor

I picked up a used LS1 complete engine from a 2004 Corvette a couple of years ago. It came from a running (but wrecked) car that had 48k miles. Here are my questions:

Since it has been sitting covered in my garage for over 2 years, (no fluids in it and all openings covered),What will I need to do to it to prepare it for the drop into my 1969 Camaro?
Do I need to disassemble the engine for any reason? I was hoping to leave in intact since it has low mileage.
I purchased headers, oil pan and a swap kit so I think I'm covered on mostly everything.
I'm just concerned that it has been sitting for awhile. Also it has that weird chalky white (oxidation?) on it, is this easily removed?
I still need to purchase a stand alone harness and I already have the original PCM..
Thanks for input..

Tony

Re: Used LS1 Vette motor

Engine should be fine.

You can use the ecm with a new harness but it will need to be re-flashed to delete the VATS and other things that are not used like the rear O2 sensors.

You will also need the throttle pedal unless you got it with the engine. If it was an automatic tranny Corvette and you go manual you may have to get a different ecm

I would go with PSI for the harness and ecm if you need one

I would also do a cam swap. The LS1 is only 350 hp

Re: Used LS1 Vette motor

Is the ecm from an automatic Vette?

The 4L60 will fit ok be you may have to clearance the tunnel for the coolant lines and convert to AN fittings

DSE sells a nice bracket for mounting the pedal

FWIW I didn't need to clearance my tunnel using my 4l70E and the Holley swap mounts. It was tight but nothing hitting.

If I do a cam swap, what else will I have to replace?

Re: Used LS1 Vette motor

I just completed this swap in my 1968 camaro. As stated above, I didn't have to make any transmission tunnel modifications with my 4L60e using the Holley swap mounts. It definately is tight up in there, so make sure you get everything tightened down the first time. My LS1 had been sitting for a couple of years also. Vega$69 also advised me to install a cam and new lifters before the swap and I am glad that I did. I also used PSI harness and have 0 complaints.

Can you tell me what cam and lifters you got and where?
Do you have a build thread?

I do not have a build thread Tony, but tonight I'll dig out my receipts on my cam and lifters and post them for you.

Re: Used LS1 Vette motor

You might want to call Cam Motion, they make custom LS cams to your setup and they also offer complete swap kits. I've put 2 of their cams in LS motors and had amazing results.
