Water pump mods with Holley accessory drive

Not sure how I overlooked this, but my LS3 water pump for 2008-13 vettes appears to need mods to work with the "standard" holley front accessory drive kit.

The drive kit is 20-138 and is the one that holds the accessories closest to the engine http://documents.holley.com/199r10640rev1.pdf

On page 5 of the instructions (at above link) it shows where to cut or grind on this "type 3" water pump.

I plan on doing this but wondered if anyone else had to ?

The "type 3" pump has the outlet at the top right - to the right of the pulley as you view the engine.

Or should I sell this pump and buy the 2002 Camaro water pump ($88) which needs no mods ? This pump has the outlet on the left side of the pulley(see pic)

10-4 will do

Does anyone have this water outlet position (far right) and what radiator hose did you use ?

Re: Water pump mods with Holley accessory drive

I came across this 2007 Vette 6.0L water pump, Gates 45011.

No clearance issues with the Holley front accessory drive and the silver pulley convinced me to get it. LOL the black pulley doesn't look as good IMHO

Re: Water pump mods with Holley accessory drive

Making progress slowly.....

Rechecked the valve adjustment and it's good.

Got the harmonic balancer installed - used plenty of blue loctite :-)

I'm still in a quandry about what to do about the coil packs - I have the truck coil packs and don't really want to mount them on the valve covers. Time is pressing so I painted the valve covers gloss black to help blend in the black coils.

I need to get this running ASAP so I will worry about how the engine looks later

Mating the engine with the 4L80e was time consuming but got it done.

Everything is assembled and torqued and ready to set in tomorrow.

Nice work.

I like the Holley valve covers but the truck coils wonít work. Not a fan of relocating them either. I would look at the many covers that are made for LS engined that go over the coil packs.

Thanks

The MSD 6014 controller has a setting for "truck coils."

Are these coils capable of high performance - high rpm ?

Should I try to buy a used complete OEM coil pack off a Camaro/Corvette ?

The truck coils are very good but with the cooling fins a little ugly to some people. You can either use some Vette style take offs and brackets or the Holley covers but mor the same money you can get some covers that will work with the truck coils and hide them.

Re: Water pump mods with Holley accessory drive

More progress but not as much as I wanted.

Had some trouble with the Hooker-Holley trans crossmember for the 4L80e.

Two threaded holes were filled with powdercoating so it took me awhile to figure out what was wrong.

They also shorted some locknuts so the crossmember will be finished tomorrow.

I think the 4L80e has plenty of tunnel clearance; once the crossmember is in I'll know fer sure

Re: Water pump mods with Holley accessory drive

If you are installing a 4L80e and use the Holley/Hooker crossmember, I have a warning :

The instructions are not thoroughly checked out. They designed this crossmember with a stock 1st gen subframe sitting in their shop. With no floorpan installed. I talked with a Holley technician today.

You cannot install the crossmember because you can't get the bolts in! The floorpan is in the way.

Since there is no clearance above due to the floorpan, you will have to weld nuts onto the top of the crossmember so you can insert a bolt from underneath and tighten it.

I did this but didn't have time to try to install the crossmember after doing this modification.

I have to go back to work and will report back in a week or so.

If you have the valve covers with threaded holes on the side closest to the intake manifold you can get a set of proform coil relocation brackets. They put the coil packs just above the valve cover. May not be what you want exactly but is a quick and easy option

Well here is my review on the Holley/Hooker 4L80e crossmember : it will only fit some Camaros.

It is an "extremely ambitious" design as it hugs the floorboard to give maximum clearance for the exhaust system.
The problem is if your body mounts are a little collapsed with age or there have been floorpan repairs you may not have room to get it in.

I have plenty of room to get a normal crossmember in but this one just won't go in without cutting the floorboards. NOT !

If you want this crossmember I'll sell it for half.

Better be sure your floorboards are original.

I just ordered a GForce crossmember. I can tell from it's shape I won't have a problem.

Holley better be ready for some lousy reviews on this piece.
