Ls position in engine bay

How close should the back of an ls engine be to the firewall in a 69 camaro?

Speedtech sent me their new lsx adapter plates that have 3 mounting positions
Stock
3/4” back
1-7/8” back
I know i have to go at least 3/4” back to clear the rack and pinion but if i go too far back i would have to reposition the center console to allow the shifter to come up through

Re: Ls position in engine bay

I have the Holley mounts, the gap from the back of the right cylinder head to the firewall is 1.5 inches in my 68.

Re: Ls position in engine bay

I always move mine 3/4" forward of stock to allow a little more clearance for wiring etc. did so with my Speedtech sub and no R&P clearance issues at all.

I cant go any further forward as my oilpan is a width of a piece of paper from hitting the rack

Re: Ls position in engine bay

Keep in mind the location of your shifter handle when deciding what position to use for the engine. Just a thought.

since im a tall guy im moving the seats back too.

the plates can move engine back .9" to 1.75"

i dont mind welding up the hole i cut for the shifter and making a new one an inch or two further back

John, what frame stands did you use on the speedtech frame?
They sent me stands that have the drivers side raller pushing engine over 3/4” but now my trans crossmember does not fit
