Alternator Wisdom?

Hi All, I have a 68 with stock subframe, LS1 with Holley engine mounts and crossmember. I started down the Holley accessory bracket path and quickly found out did not have the subframe clearance I needed, (not even close despite Holley's attestations). I returned the Holley stuff and got the Dirty Dingo brackets which bolted up no problem while using a small frame alternator.

The positive post on the alternator I sourced was too close to the subframe for my comfort so I reclocked the alternator which resulted in the connector receptacle being at the 12 o'clock position right up against the block, so no go.

I talked to Dirty Dingo (should have done this first) to see which alternator they suggest and came up with 8206-5AN. Before I buy another alternator has anyone here used the Dirty Dingo lower alternator mount? If so, which alternator worked for you? In addition to this question it really seems a lot of people here have had alternator problems recently. Is there a brand in the sweet spot for price/quality?

Thank you -
