I'm kind of new on the ls bandwagon and I've been searching but no success. Are there any headers (long) out there that do not hang too low below the subframe (or not at all) for ls motors and/or headers that let you use the mechanical linkage for the clutch ? Any help is appreciated.
I have the hooker Blackheart headers. They fit very well if you use the hooker motor mounts. No issues with steering gear box and they tuck up very nicely. I'm using a hydraulic clutch, so I can't help you on that aspect.
I am facing the same issue shortly. I would like to use a mechanical heimed up clutch linkage but its not the hill to die on. What i think i have found looking into this is that no one will tell you their header fits with a zbar installed. Some will tell you Dougs Headers just clear. I believe thats likely the case in the perfect scenario with slider mounts. Dougs acknowledged as much to me but they understandably wont get caught up in that black hole. I should know the answer before spring.
I have a 1969 Camaro with 350, power steering, factory clutch setup and no a/c. I'm using Thorley 376Y tri-y headers and they fit great with no clearance issues and tuck nicely underneath with plenty of ground clearance. Believe Doug's Headers are also recommended for first generation camaros. Search "Thorley 376Y" and you should find other testimonies. Hope this helps!
Ok guys, just want to make sure, the headers you guys are talking about, they work well with the factory mechanical clutch linkage ? That's what I'm most concerned with.
Dan Lemon makes a header to suit LS, and if they're anything like the headers on my Big block Nova they won't hang low.......but you will pay for them.
Don’t mean to hi-jack the thread, following along here-but have a question.
Anyone have experience with an LS swap/ header AND a power rack&pinion with regard to clearance issues?
Thanks
The only clearance consideration it the steering shaft to the rack. Not hard to resolve. Don’t know about R&P with stock sub.
