I am running a lunati #12 cam([email protected] Duration and 515 lift)I can't seem to get a good idle under 1000rpm(7" of vacuum)..Would you guys say this is reasonable..I can get it to idle at 800rpm but the thing shakes way to much and I only pull 4"of vacuum...

So do you guys think 1000 rpm idle is exceptable for this big of a cam..Thanks

If you're using a Holley, what power valve are you using?

1000 rpm and 7" is probably as good as you're going to get with that much cam; you can't have a huge cam with big-time overlap and lift and expect it to idle anywhere near normally.

I would try connecting the vacuum advance to a manifold source - more timing at idle seems to help big cammed engines idle better. I like the ported source though for my engine since it has a more "reasonable" 236* duration cam.

I wouldn't expect it to idle much less than 1000 RPM though.

I am running manifold vacuum now for my advance..I guess you guys are right..It idles better than I expected at 1000rpm but wanted to check with you guys...I know I have to change the metering rod springs like some of you guys have suggested..Since I do have alittle dribble from the primaries at idle...and it starts to load up at idle on occasions....Thanks for the advice guys..I really appreciate it
