Is it possible to put a 76 tilt colum in my 69 camaro everything looks like it will fit except for the coupler has anyone tried putting a later colum in their car. I paid $16 for the colum and its perfect

I believe the column is longer because the second gen has the steering box in front of the subframe crossmember. There is also a sliding link between the steering box and column.

i think you might be able to take the shaft off the newer column that goes between the firewall and the steering box, and maybe- just maybe- put the steering coupler off the old column onto it. i know they are similar, and want to do a similar thing on my Nova to get tilt and the dimmer switch on the blinker switch- and maybe cruise,too.
keep us informed if you figure anything out.

Yes, this can be done as I have put one in my 69. First you will need to remove the shaft from the bottom of the column and put the one off the old one on your new column, I welded mine on. The rag joint connector is what I am referring to. Also you will need to use the column drop bracket from your 69, also on my car the signal wires were wired backwards on the 69 compared to the late model column, I just cut mine and rewired them. All works fine, but car is not ready for the road yet.
