Is the quality of window tint you can buy at any auto store, the same as if you have a tint shop do it? I have the glass out so I thought about just tinting it myself. I took it to a local shop they didn`t seem to interested in tinting it unless it was in the car for some reason.

Buy the tint from them if you feel confident. It is better. I did back in the day. I put limo tint on the car and it looked great. I could not see a bloomin thing after dark but wow!

I had to remove it for legal reasons later. I would never do it to my car today.

See if your tint shop will sell it by the foot. Llamar is just about the best commercial brand of tint going. It holds up the best in the sun and doesn't fade or turn purple as bad as some other cheaper brands. Also, Advance Auto Parts sells a Gila brand tint that isn't that bad. I put it on my roommates truck a couple of years ago and it hasn't faded or turned purple yet. It also seems to go on a little easier than Llamar. If you decide to go with it, buy the best grade of tint that they sell. I think that they have a $9 roll and a $12 or $13 roll. Buy the more expensive roll. It has an extra layer for scratch protection.

I would buy the commercial tint if at all possible. Applying window tint must be a craft, because I have done it several times using commercial tint and I don't get the results they get. I always get some dust which causes bubbles. I would shop around for a different shop. There is no reason that they should not do it with the glass out of the car. It is acutally easier to do.
