What is a good setting for timing on a sbc 305 engine. I currently am running 16 btdc initial. If I give too much advance will this cause my car to take off slower or faster? I am curious because with more advance it seems to go quicker initially. But maybe it is just me. Thanks

I believe most folks start with 8 degrees BTDC and then go from there. Too much and you are asking for a piston with a fresh shiney hole in the top, but generally, advancing it bit by bit from the initial wil gain you slightly more torque at low RPM while sacrificing a bit of HP way up in the rips.
