Could anyone let me know if originally a car(69 camaro) had a 3 speed manual and to change over to to a 4speed m22 would the shifter be in the same location of the tunnel or would it be futher back?

I had to remove about 2 inches of metal at the rear of the 3 speed hole in order for the Muncie shifter to be centered in the 4-speed shifter boot retaining ring while in neutral. The 3-speed hole is not rectangular like the 4-speed hole, so it won't be a perfect fit.

My 68 swapped with no problems. I used an M20 with Hurst Comp+ that bolted onto the rear housing with a big U bolt. Probably is different than the setup your looking at though.

I used a '69 GM Hurst shifter. It may fit differently than the Hurst aftermarket version. It did not use the u-bolt.
