As far as I know 1981 was the first year for the ECM on Camaros. Your '84 definetly has one, unless someone took it out.

ok thaks, i found the computer on the passenger side under the dash, now is there a way to check for error codes? i know in chryslers you turn the ignition on and off 5 times and count the flashing light to determine the error codes. does the camaro have a similiar feature?

There's a diagnostic plug under the dash usually on the driver's side. Find the ground wire (black with white stripe) and put a jumper between it and the wire next to it. Turn the key to the on position and count the check engine flashes. It will flash the first digit short pause and then the second digit. Flash, pause, flash flash = code 12. It does each code three times I think followed by a long pause and then the next code. It will always flash a code 12 which is no distributor signal because the engine's not running.
