I am really confused here. I searched this sight and found some pictures of the '69 power top frame vs manual top frame. My 68 convertible appears to have a power top frame and lift cylinders so I got excited. Then I read that even the manual tops had lift cylinders. Is that correct?

Here is a picture of my top frame:

And the lift cylinder in the car: (Note they appear to have fittings)

If I have the correct top frame and these are manual cylinders can I simply replace them with power cylinders and be in business? (After adding pump, hoses, circuit breaker, wiring, and a switch of course.)

Also if they are power cylinders, does anyone offer a rebuild kit for them? I'm sure after years of manual usage and no fluid the seals would be cracked and leak.

Any help greatly appreciated!

PS - We need a convertible forum!

Manual tops don't have lift cylinders, they have assist springs. The center hinge on a manual top has a vertical "C" shaped guide on it and the hinge itself is different. You have a power top. The pump should be behind the rear seat, and their should be a switch on the dash.

Did you see these pictures?

And there is a convertible forum, but you need to get to it through the search function or the HOP TO menu on the bottom of each page.

Yes, those were the pictures I saw. I also found a thread though that mentioned manual lift cylinders.

Anyway... I'm very happy to find I do have the power top frame. Sitting on cloud 9 to be exact!

I don't see a Post button in the Convertible forum and it says Archive... am I blind???

Any info on a rebuild kit for the lift cylinders?

We don't have a ragtop section. Archives are for saved off threads that are read only. If you have something to add paste the url of the archived topic into a new thread and ask away... I've been slowed down by links with pictures and am trying to resolve how to perserve the pics and the associated thread when the pic's are on another site. Do a search on convertible in bench racing and you'll find a post with many links to convertable issues. That's where I left off...
