Does anyone know what all VA checks for State Inspection? I live in VA Beach VA. I recently finished rebuilding an 85 IROC but didnt put the smog pump or manifold exhaust tubes back on. Can I get away with it for inspection? I know DC area is diferent then Southeast VA. I dont want to put a rejection sticker on such a beautiful car. No Camaro deserves that.

Thanks all.

You must have a tight, leak-free exhaust from the manifold to the rear of the vehicle.

Under hood inspection is not enforce yet.
Tread on all tires, defrost must work, lights and brakes in good order, wiper blades in good shape, no broken ends, no broken windows, otherwise, roll it down into the door.

No stars or cracks at eye-level on the inside lamination of the windshield, no more than 20 sq inches of total decals or stickers in the windows, no dark tint. No rusty frame rails and undercarriage.

It's been a few years since I lived there (Fredericksburg and Charlottesville), but the inspections on my vehicles were always physical/mechanical inspections. That is, were the tires OK, did the brake lights work, etc.

They never did any emissions test. Though they probably could visibly see if someone removed a cat, e.g., they wouldn't detect it via any emissions test.

Within the past couple years, there have been more inspectors getting suspended because of not inspecting frames, a.k.a., exhaust mods (read lack of convertors). They are underneath looking, why not look for more.

Figure on at least one wheel coming off.

Thanks for all the responses. I still have the cat on, the only stuff I took off was the tubes on the manifold and the smog pump. I put plugs in the manifold and capped off the breather tube on the cat. Im just not sure if they even check for that stuff in va or not. I guess I can always atleast put the stuff back on to look like its all hooked up. Just didnt want to put junk back on after a good rebuild.
