Hi,
Has anyone had experience with this starter cut-off security system. The system uses a permanent starter mounted solenoid module and is digital signal controlled from a main key fob transponder reader.
I've looked at their web site www.powerlock.com but think its a little pricy at $229.00.
I own a fully restored 69 Camaro SS350 and would like to especially prevent any youngster joy rides.
Thanks, Ray..........

Looks like you could pop start a car that uses this system. But, no, I don't have any experience with it.

You can't pop start (if this is the term for jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver) this system becasue there is a non conductive cover with a control module that goes over the terminals on the starter. This get's epoxied on and is not removable once inplace.

There is some kind of digitally encoded signal from the control unit that closes a contact inside this module on the starter to pickup the coil. The only problem with this system besides it's expensive is that this module that get's epoxied onto your solenoid makes it kind of hard to replace a starter if it fails, or to transfer the system to another car. I think Classic Industries sells these as well. Price is about the same.

With "pop starting", I was referring to hot wiring the ignition, getting the car rolling, and dumping the clutch (if so equipped).

I think by pop-start the car, he meant that if you have a standard and the thief can get power to the coil, and roll the car fast enough to dump the clutch and have the momentum turn the engine over, the car can still be stolen! Recently the starter went out on my Nissan P/U and all I had to do to start it was park on little hills, or ramps and that was all that it took to start the motor, no pushing!

Just another perk of owning a manual trans. Who needs starters?? Try that with your slush box!!

Although, I've heard you can pop start an automatic if you can get it going around 30 MPH.

Joy rides is about all it would stop. The Pro's would just drag it up on a rollback and tell your neighbor they're taking to the garage for a repair. A secret switch to disable the ignition will beat the youngsters then use the $229.00 to buy more insurance to protect against the Pro's.

Sorry I know that's not an answer to the question.
