In prepearation for the Power Tour I want to install a cruise control. What are some options and what do you suggest?

I'm currently using a unit from www.dakotadigital.com . After less than stellar experiences with cruises from "parts stores", the DD unit is working great. A bit pricey but I spent more on low cost systems that didn't last too long. DD can also supply a turn signal handle ,that matches the early style, for no additional cost.

OR you can try to assemble a system from a mid 70's GM cars from a wrecking yard. I got a system diagram from a MOTORS manual and then got the pieces (handle/harnes/cables/actuator/etc) at the wrecking yard. The system worked great with my old 350 2bbl motor, but didn't fit right with the TPI motor (in my elcamino).

Was the DD unit all electronic? I'd say it's worth any additional cost to go electronic as opposed to the mechanical type on older cars. Although if you're wanting to stay classic, the mechanical systems work. They just tend to be a little less smooth and reliable.

THIS is the Dakota Digital I am using. It has a transducer that mounts between the tranny speedo output & the speedo cable. Two wires go from the transducer to the control box/servo. And yes it is smooth and does not "hunt". I am using the HND3 handle on this page: http://www.dakotadigital.com/products.cfm?Category=115
