I am in the finishing stages of new Dakota Digital gauges, and Classic Air install. Actually those are done and I started car to check if they were working and they did.
NOW I just installed a new wiring harness and Detroit Speed RS grill kit, but now when I go to start it I have no power...
I believe I wired it just like the old harness but now I have no power when I turn key, no lights nothing. I tested battery and even jumped it but nothing. I would expect to have some power at least.
I replaced the drivers side harness only and from the firewall forward. Could this cause total loss of power to car? The small relay on the driver's side up behind head light are that is wired up to harness could this be wired wrong and cause it?
PLEASE. All and any suggestions welcome As I am at a loss here..
There's a junction block right near the battery on the core support that the smaller positive battery cable connects to the wiring harness. Check to see if that is connected.
Got any pics of this for me? That does reminds me that I did replace the battery terminals and the positive had a small red wire built into the old terminal and I forgot where it went and forgot to replace it. It had a black plastic thing on other end that appears to have pulled loose from something. ... is this what you could be referring to on firewall?.. I have the MSD
Ignition wired up or is this something different?
You need to identify your hot line from the battery to your electric junction on firewall, then from there to the ignition switch. Is it completely dead? or just the ignition? I'm sure you've checked your wires to make sure they are all connected. You might reference a schematic of wiring to aid in your wire trace. I have had this same upgrade done within the last 2 months. (Vintage Air and RS conversion using electric motors instead of vacuum canisters on headlight doors). Much tracing with an circuit tester got things sorted out.
yes on the drivers side of your radiator support just below the voltage reg there is the turn signal relay, power goes through it and if it is not wire correctly you well not have power
Sorry I tried to send an attachment before with a wiring diagram in the post. I hope it works this time. Follow the + wire from the battery to the junction box. That wire then goes to the horn relay.
There is no junction box. 12v from batt to junction block. It's just a plastic piece with a threaded stud and nut attached to the radiator support between the battery tray and the radiator.
From there to horn relay buss. Buss to firewall connector
I am confused as I have sent attachments in two different post. It showed the name of the attachment below in attached files. When I go back to the post later it is gone ???
This is the relay I speak of, the red wire that came from + side of battery terminal would it go to thus? It is the only wireIi can not account for. Would this keep me from getting any power to switch when I try and start it?
There is only the horn relay unless you have added relays for headlights or the car has a cowl induction hood then there would be a factory relay mounted on the heater box.
OK. My problem is solve. Stupid me forgot to hook up power back on the new harness from the passenger side of harness. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.
Still have no idea what the last pics I posted are. Any ideas?
You should really clean that up a little as that wire is "hot" at all times when connected properly. Having that twisted exposed wire can really ruin your day if it was to come in contact with something metal down the road.
This is not on the car any longer. Still don't know what it goes to. I will clean it is and put new wire on it if I can find out what it is and where it went.
thefley, This junction block http://www.camarocentral.com/1967_1971_Battery_Cable_Junction_Block_With_Nut_p/wir-341.htm is held onto the radiator support with a 10/32 screw between the battery and radistor. (the hole should already be drilled) A red 10 gauge or a red 14 gauge wire connects to the block and runs along the top of the radiator support in the harness to the horn relay you were holding.
