ARP bolt problem

Got the kit 134-2203 pressure plate bolts
Washers are too small and dont fit over the threads
Anyone else ever experience this and what did ARP do to correct?

Re: ARP bolt problem

I have just used grade 8 bolts and washers for the pressure plate.
I would just head to the hardware store and get the proper washers
it would be quicker in the long run
I would still contact them about the wrong size washers

Re: ARP bolt problem

a grade 8 hardware is grade 8. get grade 8 bolts and washers from your local hardware store and forget it
some people are money people. they have to have name brand, but in reality non name brands are just as good
not sure how long arp has been around, but I am sure people used hardware grade 8 bolts before them

Re: ARP bolt problem

OP

+1 on get another set from whoever you got them from. Mis-packaged, happens.

ARP are excellent fasteners.

IDK, but it was noted in this thread that the washers may be beveled. If so, "generic" grade 8 won't sit the same way

My LT1 has specific PP bolt. IDK about LS motors but would not be surprised they are not just standard bolts

Re: ARP bolt problem

Pressure plate bolts are not the same as a grade 8 bolt from the hardware store. The difference is the bolt has a longer shoulder that fits into the countersunk hole in the flywheel. This centers the pressure plate and stops it from developing a vibration. Can you use grade 8 bolts from the store? Yes, but they are not the same bolt.

ARP makes a great product. I would call and let them know you are having an issue.

Good luck with your project

Re: ARP bolt problem

just asking a ?. did any 67,68 69 Camaro or even the corvette come with arp bolts. factory grade 8 worked then. worked with all the hi-po engines back in the day. they will work now unless you are building funny car or top fuel engine
I have a 540 horse SB and the only arp bolt I am using is for the heads. just because I lost the original bolts
torque your hardware grade 8 bolts and washers to factory specs and forget it. mine has been together for 8 years

they are a 3/8-16 bolt nothing special about them
if you can show me in the manual where there are a special bolt I will GREATLY APOLOGIZE
I have hundreds of 3/8" bolts with different shoulder lengths

the arp bolts i have are not for the shouldered holes in my flywheel.
full thread from under the head to the tip
my clutch is centered by the dowel pins
and yes can easily be replaced by hardware store grade 8 or higher bolts

i actually ordered grade 10 flange bolts with lock washers from bolt depot. if this new pack of arp bolts are crap again im gonna use them total cost was under $5

Re: ARP bolt problem

The question today with grade 8 bolts has to do with confidence that the bolt is as represented. Lines on the head donít mean sh** in China. ARP is a reliable source. Good bolts have a radius under the head. Good washers have a corresponding radius. They should be assembled that way, especially with SAE washers.

67RSSS......owned since 69. A basket case for most of it.

I lied! the last engine I bought had all arp bolts
first one to break was the valve cover studi then cut the head off a usa made grade 5 bolt and used it
