T56 magnum clutch options?

I'm putting together a list of parts for my TH350 to T56 magnum swap.

Does anyone have the part number for the proper McLoed twin disc clutch and TOB?

Re: T56 magnum clutch options?

Why do you want a twin disc? There are very good dual friction clutches for a lot less $

Re: T56 magnum clutch options?

I am in the same boat as you Dave. I have McLoeds +.4 flywheel. They say the 6932-07 clutch setup fits that wheel. Thats the rxt part number. They have it catalogued mainly as a Ford part it seems with LS apps as a footnote. I am leaning towards the twin disc in the hope it matches up better with my trashed left ankle. I still have some clutch pieces from back when that should handle the power, do fit this flywheel, but might not be compatible with the ankle. I still have some time yet before i need them.

Go with a hydraulic Clutch for easy pedal effort.

What engine? NA or Boosted?

Not HP but Torque is what matters in a clutch requirement.

IMO you should figure out the engine 1st then decide on the best clutch for your combo and the way you intend to use the car.

Re: T56 magnum clutch options?

What changes in the hydraulic setup John? If at the end of the disengagement the pressure plate and pedal have the same travel there is no change in mechanical advantage and no change in force required other than the losses produced by linkage resistance, which can be considerable.
Do you know if McLoeds hydraulic setup interferes with Wilwoods balancing valve mount assuming no power booster? The pics I see of the hyd clutch assembly seem to point that way.

Re: T56 magnum clutch options?

The Hydraulic makes pedal pressure very easy compared to the OEM Z Bar set-up. Sit in a new Camaro or Vette and feel the effort.

Re: T56 magnum clutch options?

OP

if you will be making 650 RWHP and similar TQ you want a twin disc clutch vs a single disc DF one. Street manners are smooth sailing with full face organic disc Twin clutch (McLeod RST). If its all about he 1/4 mi than get the RXT

While not in my Camaro I have the McLeod twin in another Chevy 383/T56 car and it is WAY better than any single disc, regardless of composition, I have used. I also have the McLeod (Wilwood) MC (hydraulic clutch), nice unit. If this is a LSx car than use stock size bore MC

Thanks for the insight. Yes, +/- 600tq is where I hope to be. No boost, just a NA motor with no nitrous. I don't know if that will change in the future but, I don't think so.

The best clutch I had was a Mantic Twin Disc.

SBC, BBC, LS?

How are you going to achieve your 650/600 numbers NA?
