Vintage Air Gen IV question

I purchased and just recieved my new Gen IV system for my 68. I have been going through the instructions and trying to take a careful inventory of all the stuff in the boxes. My question is about the pulleys required. After going through the instructions and looking at my car -I don't have a pulley for the A/C compressor and the kit doesn't seem to come with one. Is this a pulley I need to buy for the crank or do I need one for the crank AND one for the waterpump? (short waterpump, stock 327 with headers).

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

on my 68 I used a 2 groove on the water pump one for the A/C and one for the altenator. I added the third bolt on pulley to my double crank pulley for the power steering. According to Vintage air even though their compressor comes with a double pulley you only need one belt to it.

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

Thanks!
My crank has a 2 groove pulley on it now. One drives the water pump and alternator and the other is used by the power steering pump. Is there supposed to be a pulley with the kit? If there is, I haven't found it yet.

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

As far as I know they do not come with any pullys. My kit certanliy did not. Pullys are not that hard to come by but if you by them new they seem a little pricey to me. Also you will need a solinoid for the carb to kick the idle speed up when you turn on the A/C. I just ordered a Edlebrock one and it was $98.00. I never understood for what this kits cost why they dont give you everything.

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

The only pulley with the kit is the one on the compressor. I just had to send mine back because it was supposed to be a serpentine and I got a V-belt.

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

pulleys are extra.
classicautoair asks about your engine and pulley combo when ordering.

2 groove on the water pump
3 groove on the crank.
GM, Jegs, Summit and others sell them,,,

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

Cool -thanks everyone. Guess I will order a new pulley!

hhott71, I was going to go with Classic but I went ahead and ordered the Gen IV through GPSuperstore. From what I have read about the Gen IV it sounds like a good system. I HOPE I don't regret it!!! I have done some AC work on cars in the past but I have NEVER done a complete install -The instructions look like it is pretty involved!

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV question

I am thinking of buyinig the surefit gen 4 for my non ac 68. I have a crate 350 with alternator on driver side. Pulley question. I have a two pully on crank. One runs alternator and water pump and the other runs the p/s. Will i need to change this pulley? Also, i note that i only have one mounting hole in the head on the passenger side, will that be good enough for the bracket or do i need serveral?
Seems like small charges like insulation, brackets, pulleys, are starting to add up. Anyone got a good ballpark on what thier system cost net net with all the unexpected extras. Thanks in advance, just getting nervous about pulling this trigger, although from what i read most seem very happy with this change.
