fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

wondering if some of you guys out there with an original 67/68 BB can measure the length like I have in the picture and let me know if 6 1/2" is correct, so I can eliminate this as a problem as to why my fan does not go halfway into the shroud. thanks,

Re: fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

I've just run into this problem because my 68 BB was overheating. It was because the fan didn't go into the shroud enough. New shroud, fan and an electric fan and we're golden. The measurement though, exactly like yours, is 7 1/2 inches. Is your car overheating?

Re: fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

yeah cjg my car is overheating on hot days and I suspect its because of the fan not being in the shroud. Why am I only at 6 1/2", compared to your setup? 7 1/2" would put my fan in the right spot
I swear I ordered a 67/68 shroud last year.

Do you have any pictures

thanks but I checked out the hayden site and a 2710 is what they suggest will work. It is 1.75" in length from mount to mount, so I checked mine and it is 1.75 so I am still confused.

That sure looks like the right shroud.

Why not put a 1" spacer behind that fan clutch?

thanks but I want to stay with a stock set up Jim. So a spacer is out of the question.

I will let you know which shroud I got. The first one was like yours and I had the same result as you. So, I had to get another that is still stock. Let me get back to you.

Re: fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

It's a 68 Big Block shroud from Rick's First gen. It helped me bring the fan in an extra inch. Good luck man. It's working for me in Florida with A/C during some 100 degree weather.

Re: fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

Wow, like you guys were reading my mind. I have the same prob. 67' small block, long pump, still an inch shy from getting to the shroud, let alone deep into the shroud. I didn't want to add a spacer to the fan clutch because it looks like it will wabble. I too have the overheating problem. So I guess my Q is can I add possibly 2 spacers to get my depth, or say screw it and put the electric fan. I'm becoming truly aggravated attempting to fix the problem. Thanks

thanks cjg, what was your conclusion about your old shroud? do you think that it was a 69' or just a bad repo?

Is it possible to post a pic with a tape measure of your shroud like mine. It would be greatly appreciated

Re: fan shroud depth on a 67/68 BB

I think I may have come up with the solution and it is a little . I was looking at a picture of an original BB 67 camaro, and the shroud seems to be bolted to the top bracket farther out than mine. So if it's okay not to have the shroud 100% up against the rad and out maybe 1/4" that will bring my fan halfway in. The only problem will be a hole in the shroud where it was bolted.

Johny,

I don't know what year it was. Just knew it wasn't gonna work, car was over heating. Bought the proper one for the car and it worked. I'll get you a pic.
