A/C help for Vintage Air, 68 SS

This is my first post so I may screw it up, but I purchased a 68 SS with a Vintage Air setup (aprox. 1 year old) utilizing the factory controls. Everything seems to work OK but the air doesn't get too cold. I am hoping it is just low on freon but I don't want just anyone to add some, so I called Vintage Air to locate an approved service location in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I talked to a couple of the places and there is a long wait. So I was hoping someone would know of a good place to take it in the DFW area that can be trusted with a restored classic that I won't need a co-signer for. I don't have the equipment to do it properly myself. TIA

DFW was the home of all things in mobile AC for decades.
There were scores of aftermarket ACX shops in the Metroplex, and about a dozen aftermarket AC MFG's too.

But that was in the good old days.....

Re: A/C help for Vintage Air, 68 SS

I have not done anything to the A/C unit and unfortunately the person I purchased it from, is deceased, so I don't know what has been done. I'm just a little apprehensive of taking it to any old A/C place and having them not be familiar with VA products and screw something up. I was just hoping someone could recommend a good place that they used. Thanks.

Oh, I just remembered I changed the thermostat from a 195 to a 160. Would that have any effect on the system?

Installed Vintage air on a 67 Convertable a while ago. If I remenber right there is a rotary knob on the bottom of the unit . You can turn this to increase or decrease the cooling. Lew

No, But you might not want a 160 stat for other reasons, but that's a different topic.

First thing I would do is check the knob bigguy2052 mentioned, and then have your refrigerant level checked.

I think you can download an owners manual from the vintage air website.

I just thought of another thing. Make sure the heater valve in the hose just in front of the firewall is closing completely, otherwise you are running the heater and AC at the same time.
