Quality of new heater cores ?

I have to replace the heater core in my 68. It's been off the road for many years and the interior is currently all apart so yesterday I tested my heater core by pressurizing it while it was in the bath, sure enough a few bubbles coming from it. What kind of quality can I expect from new replacement from either repro houses or auto parts ? Is this something that I can bring to a radiator shop and have repaired ? Just want to put it there and forget about it for years and years.

Frank.

Re: Quality of new heater cores ?

modine makes a good one from autozone and advance auto..
all the aftermarket ones are good as long as they are new, you shouldnt have any problems at all with a new one, it'll probally last you another 40 plus years..
make sure when you put your heater hoses onto the heater core, spary a lil wd40 into the hose end, so the hose just slips on, dont disturb the neck of the heater core at all, even when tighting the clamp too..thats a weak point for the heater cores, at the neck where the 2 tubes come out!

Re: Quality of new heater cores ?

Wish I had known that a few years ago... I bent the neck on one of the heater core ends, guess what, it leaked....
