67 RS SS heat control cable

Hey guys
On my NO AIR 67 car, the middle (hot to cold_ lever is stuck on the HOT side. How much trouble is it going to be for me to get to the problem and free up the lever.
Any input appreciated.

Re: 67 RS SS heat control cable

The controls have a "cable style" connection attaching them to the heater box.

be careful when you are working with these cables and the connectors. The 40+ year old cables will break easily. Once you remove the connected cables check your heaterbox controls for movement. isolate the problem either
1. control levers in the dash
2. cables pinched or rusted
3. heaterbox connections jammed or stuck

I believe the temp cable is the longest of the three. It goes to a lever on top of your heater box behind the glove box. If you can remove the glove box it should be easy to see and work on. Before you try to remove the glove box remove the plastic heat defuser.

Re: 67 RS SS heat control cable

You'll probably find that either the wire inside the cable is pinched by a too tight bend (usually at the keeper strap, you'll see). Or the wire is rusted inside the cable or the heater door flap is hung up.

Removing the glove box and taking a peek is the best way to find out what's going on short of removing the heater control unit.

My guess is a kink.

What ever you do, DON'T FORCE THE LEVER. You (like SO many before you) will break the lever clean off.
