Receiver/dryer location

We're rebuilding my friend's '69 SS350 with factory A/C. The A/C system is intact but has been converted to r134a at some point in it's life. The receiver/dryer is just kinda laid up inside the rt fender on it's side just rearward of the battery. How was this originally mounted and does it even belong there? Most GM are mounted vertically so the sight-glass can be seen.

Re: Receiver/dryer location

That is the correct location, but there should be a bracket that the drier slips into and is bolted to the inner fender.

Re: Receiver/dryer location

Thank you Kevin. That bracket is MIA hence why it's just 'laid' in there. I'll have to fine one. I appreciate the help!

Here is the bracket http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-a...1968-1969.html

But I thought I remembered another part that went to the inner fender that looked like a bar between those 2 brackets. Anyone with a AC car with pics?

Re: Receiver/dryer location

Here are my brackets after I POR'd them with other parts. One has the finger of metal over it. Those at Ricks look close to original.

Some cars also had a rubber grommet in the ledge where the a/c hose fed thru to the dryer.

Dont forget the baffles either if you are going for all the correct original stuff:

Yep..
Don't buy the 68-69 A/C dryer bracket from Classic Industries. They'll sell you a 67 and insist that it's a 68-69. They're hopeless and seem to be far worse lately.
Oh well. I needed some scrap 1" steel strap anyway.

Re: Receiver/dryer location

Info for the layout and installation of the AC system is in the RPO C60 section of the AIM; if you need it:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/32913817/69-Camaro-AIM

Page 195 of the PDF starts C60, and sheet B2 of C60 (206th page of PDF) shows the OE mounting.
