3 core question

Is there any downside at all to putting a 3 core radiator in my '68 small block that originally came with (and still has) a 2 core? 327 original block. Mild cam, 4bbl, intake.

The car runs sort of hot in the summer - especially when idling. Wonder if this will help me out...

By the way, I didn't think the price was all that bad. Then realized I was checking Rick's 2006 catalog for pricing.

2006 Price: $169.
Rick's current price on the same exact item: $309.99

An 83% increase in price. Ouch...

Re: 3 core question

If you are going to replace your radiator - I'd go with an aluminum 2 core instead - they are as think as a 4 core and aluminum cools better because it's a better conductor - lighter too.

Thanks. I'd like to keep more of a stock look if possible...

Re: 3 core question

I got a local rad shop to put a 3 core between my original tanks... Just an idea.

Alumitech makes an aluminum radiator that looks just like stock - only thing missing is the Harrison embossment on the endcap. Paint it black and a person has to know what they are looking for to tell its not OEM. I purchased one of these for my 69 pace car for exactly that reason.
They also make a copper / brass 4 core reproduction that has the Harrison embossment.

x2, I bought tamaraz rads off ebay and had a local shop solder my original tanks (did it to the heater core too! ). The reason I did it was the tamaraz top and bottom most closely matched the harrisions. A 3 core in place of a 2 core will help any cooling issues!
