Radiator shroud confusion

I was going to order a new radiator and shroud and after doing some research the confusion began so help is needed. I have a 67rs with a/c currently it has a 21'' 4 core and matching shroud over the winter I was dropping in my new 406 at aprox 500hp so my question is;

Do 67 a/c cars have 21 or 23 cores?
Are big block 23'' core radiators different than 32'' small blocks?
When they advertise a shroud as 21'' is that the match to the core size?
I have holes and grommets in place for a 23'' core is that factory?
Will going with a 23'' 3 core vs a 21'' 4 core provide more cooling?
When buying a shroud with a/c they all seem to be for 23" cores

I would like to stick with a stock look but also do need performance out of this new combo that I am ready to buy.

Re: Radiator shroud confusion

The way I understand it a small block with A/C got a 23 " 3 core radiator. My 67 with a 406 runs a 23" 4 core big block radiator with a small block A/C shroud. I'm also running a 7 blade high pitch flex fan, since I lost my old radiator due to a fan clutch failure. http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/7-blade-flex.html A good fan clutch with a proper fan might be better but this fan works great.

The '67 A/C cars got a 23" 3 core radiator. Like markw, I run a 4 core big block (23"), but use a small block (w/ AC shroud), even though I do not have AC.

Re: Radiator shroud confusion

Ok, 23'' core sb a/c shroud seems to be a good combo but is there a difference between a bb and a sb 23'' core radiator? height? anything? + do you remember where you had bought the radiator and shroud from?

Re: Radiator shroud confusion

Got my radiator from alumitech - looks just like the OE except for the Harrison embossment missing. SB AC and BB are the same radiator from them. This one is for an automatic, but you can get a manual transmission one too.

Re: Radiator shroud confusion

The big block is not centered in the engine bay like a small block is, so the fan opening in the big block shroud is not correct for a small block. That's why you use a small block A/C shroud. It's 23" wide like the big block radiator but the fan opening is centered for a small block. I got mine here...http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-f...1967-1968.html http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-r...1967-1969.html The radiator was only $239.00 when I got it.

Re: Radiator shroud confusion

I got my raditor several years ago on ebay from Tamraz for under $300.00...I don't know if they still carry them--it was for an auto (but the manual was available at the time, too).

The shroud came from Year One, I think...

Also, for a big block ,not only is the Offset incorrect, it is too "shallow" for a small block--the fan won't quite reach into teh shroud the way it should....

For the offset and deep shroud with 4 row core radiator, I use the "814" shroud. I think this is offered in OEM and repro version. I use this on a 69 sbc car with 7 blade fan and gm delco clutch.

Yes - get a shroud for a '69 since you have a '69 accessory drive. Summit sells a bracket kit to attach the shroud at the bottom. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-380660/

Yep, only one shroud for a 69 SBC, AC or not.
