fan wont blow in vent position only

Hi all. I have a 1969 camaro with factory a/c. Everything works with control levers except in the vent position the fan wont blow air. When I put levor into a/c position fan kicks on and blows cold. defroster works as well as the heater. Thanks

Re: fan wont blow in vent position only

I assume that the a/c's fan will only work when the fan is switched on using the horizontal fan switch on your heater-a/c control.

"Vent", I thought, simply relied on the vehicle moving through the air and allowing outside air to enter via the cowl, just like the regular Astro Ventilation does.

Are you saying that the fan won't switch on unless the control is switched to heat or a/c?

Re: fan wont blow in vent position only

Yes that's correct. When I put levor in a/c position the fan turns on at any speed. Heater as well as defroster. Put the levor on the vent position the fan shuts off. All new switches except for the one on the heater box. Thanks guys.

Do you have the middle lever with-in the "Bi-Level" range when trying to operate the fan?

Re: fan wont blow in vent position only

yep tried that the a/c pump goes on when i put on vent and the blower fan works on all speeds. For some reason it keeps on turning the a/c pump on in vent or bi-level. Once put on heater, hot, then defrost fan works fine and a/c does shut off.

Re: fan wont blow in vent position only

Your package inside the dash looks like this:

When in 'vent' position the fan should work in all speeds. Something isnt right. Time to pull the unit out and go Thru it, clean everything up, maybe replace both the fan speed switch and the a/c switch which is what is showing in this photo. Ive not come across this issue before but with just 2 switches in play, if they have never been replaced, its time. I replaced mine, works great.

Re: fan wont blow in vent position only

I have replaced all switches, cables. A/c still goes on in vent position. I disconneted the green wire to the A/C pump nad the fan does go on still. Looks like I have situation the the A/C pump is hot when I go to vent, A/C, and stays on at bi-level setting. The rest system works great. Put in hot and A/C the A/C pump stays on. Put in hot, heater and or defrost A/C pump shuts off. I think maybe the Diverter switch is bad. Thats the only one haven't replaced. Looks like A/C Green wire is getting power most of the time. if green wire is hot all the time, then yes there is an issue with that diverter switch.
