Fan works but stops when slide to heater (68 Factory AC car)

Hoping someone can help. My fan works fine on all speed settings but when I slide the top lever over to the "hot" heater setting the fan stops. Basically the blower only blows when the top lever is on the fan position.

Its a 68 with factory AC. I have removed the compressor since it seized up many years ago but otherwise everything is stock. Its also intermittent, it works sometimes when I slide it over but then stops working. But it rarely works lately, any help is appreciated.

I'd have to look at something, I know the high speed fan pulls power from a different circut. But I would need to research it a bit.

I'm wondering if its this?

Does anyone know what this does? And what are the symptoms when these things fail?

Thanks for any and all help.

That switch is on top of the heater case, inside the car.
I thought it switched power to the AC compressor.

I do not understand this
"Basically the blower only blows when the top lever is on the fan position."

Re: Fan works but stops when slide to heater (68 Factory AC car)

The top slider on my AC equipped camaro has 4 positions from left to right:

Far left: OFF
One position to the right: Fan
One position more to the right: Interior (This is AC on with recirculating air)
One position more to the right: Exterior (This is AC ON with outside air)
Sliding all the way to the right is the heater.

The fan only blows when the top slider is lined up with "Fan", thats the first position on the left that is just to the right of OFF. Will not blow in any other position on the slider. You can kinda see the top slider in this pic:

you may want to call Classic Auto Air in Tampa. They might have an answer for you. They rebuilt my evaporator case and explained all the switches and relays.

I can't remember if there is 2 or 3 switches on that control but it could be a switch or maybe the heator resistor in the evaporator box is defective.
