Heater core thickness

I ordered a heater core from summit. got the big block first didn't want to cut the outer cover, returned it for the small block core and wow who designed this. We got it in, had to heat and reposition the 5/8" tube, losen the front cover, and strugle for quite some time. A question maybe some one knows? The core I took out was 2'' thick the one for the camaro that went in was 2.5" thick. When I look in the summit catolog 70 nova has a 2"core, could I have a nova heater box in my 68 Camaro. The 2.5" core really fills the box to the top, and had to get creative with the hold down spring clip on the bottom tank.

thanks Yoddi

Re: Heater core thickness

I ran into this in March, the 2.5" thick seems to be 67-69, 2" thick on 69. I also found the lower tube on the summit one so long I couldn't get it to go through so I returned it and changed the car to a BB core which helps my valve cover clearance anyway. I wasn't about to pull the fender to get the under-hood box off for the current SB cores that are offered. For what it's worth I also got cores from year one and ground-up and while they have both thicknesses, the lower tube is a good 1.5" longer than what came out of either of my 68's.

Re: Heater core thickness

yes thanks I found the tubes longer and not sodered in at the right position to come through the fire wall. Are not the heater boxes the same size for all F bodies? You would think nova and camaro would be the same?

Thanks yoddi
