felt like a blast furnace today-water valve??

It was warmer here today and even a short drive the vents blasted hot air when set on cold. non a/c car.

so can you buy one at local parts store? and where is it under the hood? assume cable goes there.

and what are those TWO slides for on each side panel down low,,,I was thinking my car of 40 years ago only had one.

good thing the new shifter boot is on its way,,,that SHOULD help,,without a boot it blows lots of hot up thru.

heat didnt bother me when I was young and dumb and didnt own any a/c

There are no water valves! Water flows from the radiator into the heater core and back to the radiator. The heater box has a couple doors that block off the heat when closed and direct the heat to the cab vents or defroster vents when you open them. The sliders in the kick panels provide fresh air from outside the car when you open them. The ones with two sliders send air to the vents in the dash as well as the floor, one slider for each location.

Sounds like your heater box is in need of a rebuild, there are rubber seals on the doors or flaps inside the heater box that stop the hot air from coming into the cab.
