correct size 6 blade fan for 21" shroud

I have a 68 coupe. It still has original 327 engine and drive train. Vintage air has been added and radiator has been changed to a 21" heavy duty still with 21" shroud. The fan blade opening is about 19".

Engine is getting hot when idling. It has been recommended that I swap four blade fan out for a six blade with a clutch. Since this is an odd setup for a 68", I thought I would ask for some opinions.

Original four blade fan measures about 17.5". What is the correct size 6 blade fan to use (17")? Also, which clutch?

This car has been somewhat modified, so originality is not that important.

I think if you look on Summit for a '68 it'll come up with an 18" fan. I run the Flex-o-Lite six blade standard duty fan and Hayden standard duty thermal clutch.

The 68 small block stock shroud is 23". Mine is 21". I think these were used on 69's with ac but not sure.

Re: correct size 6 blade fan for 21" shroud

Shroud size doesn't matter for fan as long as it's a small block shroud. The opening is the same size and location regardless of 23" A/C radiator or 21" non-A/C radiator. '69 used 21" radiator for all small blocks, '68 used it for non-A/C or non-hd. Summit should give you the correct parts if you search by year. Mixing and matching years would be the only thing that might throw it off since they went to long water pump in '69.
